Greensburg Community Development Corporation (GCDC)
Vision Statement

By the year 2011, the City of Greensburg will be one seamless thriving community. Downtown Greensburg will be vibrant, with pedestrians on the street and people shopping in Downtown businesses during the day and with various entertainment options at night.  Downtown Greensburg is a destination attracting and welcoming residents and tourists from throughout the region.

Our community will be a unique place where people enjoy living, working and playing.  Downtown will have a friendly, cheerful atmosphere, with courteous people who treat each other with respect.   In addition, Downtown will be a safe place "to bring your family."

Downtown's rich history will be featured and its historic architecture will be preserved.  Commercial buildings will be filled with viable businesses on the first floor and residential living on the upper floors.

Businesses and shops are concentrated in and around the revitalized downtown and compliment the businesses located along major transportation corridors. Downtown will have a larger number of retail business than it does today.   Merchants will work together, help each other, and get involved in moving Downtown “in a forward direction."

Art and entertainment opportunities will be found in abundance in the Downtown District.  Residents and visitors will enjoy events at the Palace Theater and the Seton Hill University Center for the Performing Arts and family-oriented summer concerts at the Robertshaw Amphitheater.  Artwork by local and regional artists will be displayed in galleries and shops.

Downtown will be the “hot spot” for college students and young adults featuring evening activities, trendy bars and unique restaurants.

Public and private financial investment in commercial and residential properties improves the quality and amount of livable and productive space.  More people will be living in the Downtown District with the addition of loft style apartments and condos.  New businesses providing the services required by Downtown residents will be established within the District.

A priority will be made to keep Downtown clean so that it always “looks respectable”. Business and property owners will complete seasonal storefront cleaning and change the appearance of the window displays.  The City will “green & soften downtown” by adding horticultural elements such as plants, flowers, and trees.

Visitors and residents will enjoy experiences that are unique and stimulating.  Downtown will be appreciated by a wide variety of users and customers, including: local residents, residents of Greater Greensburg, and residents of adjacent counties; young people and families; tourists who come to enjoy the arts and culture, the laurel ridge, outdoor activities, unique destinations, and history of the region; and those drawn to the area by high school and university sports.

By the year 2011, the City of Greensburg will be perceived as the downtown for the Central Westmoreland County area, the location to start and grow a business, and the neighborhoods to live and raise a family.  By the year 2011, Downtown will be well on its way to fulfilling this vision.
